As part of a new unprecedented consultation on oil and gas in the UK, the government is asking the public to have a say on how the country assesses the climate impacts of new oil and gas projects, which could spell the end for new oil and gas in the North Sea.
We need to make it impossible for them to ignore the millions of people like you, who want climate action and affordable energy. The first step is to stop new drilling and speed up the transition to homegrown renewable energy.
We the undersigned, believe the government must:
Stop all new oil and gas projects. The government knows there’s barely anything left in the North Sea. The only way to bring down bills and increase energy security is by boosting our renewable energy production to stop relying on expensive foreign imports of fossil fuels. Halting new projects like Rosebank could also prevent billions of tonnes of CO2 from needlessly being released into the atmosphere.
Create a solid plan for new jobs and new investments. Oil and gas jobs have been in steady decline for the past decade, despite continued licensing of new fossil fuel projects. The world is moving on from fossil fuels, and we have to ensure the UK is leading the charge in renewable energy. Workers from oil and gas communities need a coherent and properly financed plan from the government to create good quality, clean energy jobs in the places that need them.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to end all new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea. Add your name to the government consultation now!
